1. Start saving a portion of your income each time you get paid. You have got to get into the position of where the income starts exceeding the expenses otherwise you will continue to keep digging yourself further and further into the hole. For some people that just might mean selling that really nice house and downsizing. For others, it might mean renting temporarily. Regardless of what it looks like, the focus has to be to getting to the point that there is less going out than there is coming in.

2. Pay yourself first. As a rule of thumb I always recommend that people pay 10% of their earnings to themselves first until they have a good 3 – 6 months reserve in place. This is so important because when life shows up and happens, it's not going to take them out. An alarming statistic is that most people will go under if they do not have their next paycheck come in when it is supposed to. This has got to change! We all could benefit from being more like the ant and living a simpler lifestyle. This is a good time for us to take a look backwards and glean some information that can help us move forward right now. Just because a bank would lend us money for something or a credit card company would give us credit iin the past, doesn't mean that we could afford it.

When we are in debt, we are robbed of our freedom to actually decide and do what we need to do to be good stewards of what we have.

The goal of everyone in debt should be to get rid of it as quickly as possible and then go into surplus. Once people go into surplus, people find they have the ability to choose restored to them. And, having choice is where freedom and peace come from.

More often than not, people become paralyzed when they are in debt. It truly is a form of bondage. And it creates non-stop stress which wreaks havoc with everything in our lives - health, relationships, marriages, job-performance, self-confidence …. EVERYTHING! Having debt is like a never ending constant heavy weight on our shoulders. The only way to make it go away is to get real with it and deal with it. The ostrich technique just doesn't work! Not being willing to take a really hard look at your current financial situation and being clear about where you stand with your finances - what is coming in and what is going out on a monthly basis, will not help you get out of debt – it will cause you to stay in bondage even longer!

1. Seek guidance and wisdom for where you are at right now. Take a look at the past to discover where things started changing for you because that is exactly where you will find the information you need to proceed better in the future.

2. Establish a spending plan. You MUST get crystal clear on where you are at right now to get to where you want to go.

3. List your assets. You MUST write them down.

4. List your liabilities. You MUST write them down.

5. Create a repayment plan based on where you are at right now. Ask yourself, "How am I going to attack this very real debt in a way that makes the best sense for where I am at right now?"

6. Be committed. Don't give up! Get your plan in place and stick with it. Understand and accept the fact that while it was quick and easy to get into debt, getting out of debt is going to take a while. You can do it if you stay committed and faithfully stick to your plan. Keep your eye on The Prize – your FREEDOM and PEACE OF MIND - which are more valuable than just about anything else!

Your Destination Depends NOT On Where You Are…

Steve D'Annunzio

Your destination depends not on where you are but on which way you go. Your results depend not on what has happened, and not on what you have, but on what you do with it all.

From here, you can go anywhere. There are pathways leading in every direction.

What matters now is which of those pathways you choose. What matters now is the next step you take.

Give yourself permission to decide what you truly desire for

When your thoughts and actions have a clear, specific

So … What Does God Have To Say About Debt?

In 2010 there were 1,536,799 bankruptcies. And we know that there were even more than that in 2011 – the numbers just haven't been compiled yet. Additionally, couple blame FINANCIAL STRESS as one of the major factors contributing to their decision to divorce.

So, if all of this is happening because of DEBT, the question that we need to give some serious thought to is

"Why do we allow ourselves to get into debt in the first place?"

RichLife Show January 14 2011 – What Does God Have To Say About Debt
If you take the time to think about it, one of the biggest reasons that most people get into debt in the first place is that , as a society, we have been conditioned to believe that we need to have the latest and greatest version of whatever is out there in the market place – cars, smart phones, houses, clothes, shoes, purses, toys, gadget, widget. We are sold and marketed MILLIONS of images and commercials by the time we are adults. And it is the job of those who are doing the marketing to convince us that if we buy "XYZ thing TODAY" we are going to be HAPPY!! Happy is relative – it can be today, tomorrow or just happy in general.

Here is something that you might not realize, today's technology has evolved to the point that that Google can target market to an individual based upon their computer's browsing history and the kind of emails their receive in their inbox! Those ads you see along side your emails and on your Facebook page are targeted directly to YOU based upon your likes and dislikes. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this because the marketers are doing their job and they are doing it very well. However, it is something to be conscious of!

The big observation I have made while working with over 3,000 clients is, by and large, we go into debt without taking care of the priorities that already exist and by that I am referring to older debt that has not been paid off. When we go further into debt and jump over those priorities, we are really financing this "temporary happiness" and sooner or later we realize our well intentioned attempt at happiness turns into STRESS, REGRET and even REMORSE! Many times, this becomes a vicious cycle of temporary satisfaction, lasting only until we start looking for the NEXT BIG THING that will allow to us to feel like we are "keeping up with the Joneses".

God warns us over and over and over again about debt!

The rich rule over the poor

and the borrower is a slave to the lender ~ Proverbs 22:7

When we are in debt, we are robbed of our freedom to actually decide and do what we need to do to be good stewards of what we have. If we are not taking care of that debt and paying it off when it exists, we have no surplus to work with when times are lean.

I love it when listeners send in questions to our radio show. Often they are very specific, such as, “What can I contribute to my IRA this year?” or, “What are the rules for rolling money out of my 401k?” But a question that came in a couple of weeks ago took us all by surprise. It was a big question, as big as they come… and we are still discussing it – on the radio show, on Facebook and Twitter, through email and comments on the blog!! My cohost Joy Allgood was 110% correct when she said the question was GINORMOUS!!…

There are over 250 quotes in the Bible that talk about money. The following are 5 key points to keep in mind when thinking about or making decisions with regards to your money.

Point # 1: You own nothing.

It’s so easy to get caught up in our stuff. But here’s the secret – none of it is ours to keep! As Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the Lord’s and all it contains.” When we get to the place where we can acknowledge God’s ownership, we go from asking, “What do I want to do with my money?” to asking, “How can I honor God with the money I have been blessed with?” That one change in mindset alone can have a HUGE impact on creating favorable conditions.

Point # 2: God is in control.

Every day brings us new challenges, and for most people, many of those challenges are financial. If you view Life as a School, those bad things that happen will deliver valuable feedback and lessons. Psalm 135:6 says, “Whatever the Lord pleases, he does in heaven and earth.” Sometimes God uses bad situations for the ultimate good. Sometimes, we’ve just got to trust Him. The only way you can fail here is if you don’t learn from the lessons, and you get stuck in the cycles. Ask yourself, “What is the lesson here?” It’s how you respond to things that will bring about a different outcome.

Point # 3: God provides.

We can’t predict how God will provide for our needs, but he has promised that he will do so. Learn to trust in this promise. The how mightcome as surprise, or it might not meet your picture of how you think life should be. Trust that God will give you exactly what you need, and remember that this might be different from what you want! Remind yourself, “I know I’m going to be okay. I don’t exactly know how, but I will get what I need.” There is peace in knowing that.

Point# 4: We are all called to be good stewards.

A steward manages, or cares for, everything entrusted to them, big or small. This includes our home, our relationships, and yes, our money. Everybody has been blessed with something. How do you care for what you have already been given? A lot of people think, “I’m a good steward because I tithe 10%.” And that’s great. But the point here to ask yourself is, “What am I doing with the other 90%?” Because that’s just as important!

If you are not taking care of what you already have,

why would you be given more?

If you want to know if someone will take care of a big client, notice how they take care of a small client. If you want to know if your son will take care of a new car, notice how they take care of their bike. If you want to expand your profits for 2012, take care of what was given to you in 2011!

And finally, Point # 5: Good Stewardship Gives Peace of Mind.

Are you feeling stressed about your home, your finances, your job? Is this how you define yourself? Are you obsessed with things working out? There is only one thing you can control. How you respond. What happens after that is out of your hands. At the end of the day, ask yourself, “Did I show good stewardship? Did I take care of what has been entrusted to me? Remember, in the end, none of it is yours to keep. When you do what you can do, and take care of what you already have, you can let go of the rest.

This will bring about the greatest gift of all – peace of mind.

So, to recap: what does God have to do with money?

What Does God Have To Do With Money?
How the principles of wise stewardship lead to financial peace of mind
by Beau Henderson

"The greatest lesson of life is that you are responsible for your life." – Oprah

What role does God play in our money?

Antonina posted on Facebook- This was the first email I read this morning! This is a very powerful message! Loved it and thank you for sharing it today!

Larry wrote in – This is one of the best business emails I have ever read !! Thank you for being so brave!!

Jennifer posted on Facebook - What a great blog post Beau! Loved the fact that you reminded all of us that God owns everything! When we realize this, our "things" and buying decisions take on a different role. Thanks for sharing!

What Does God Have To Do With Money?

This question looks at the macro view of money. It’s a BIG PICTURE question, one that requires you to take a step back and look at everything. And what better time to do that than now, at the start of a brand new year?

If you want 2012 to be more profitable than 2011, ask yourself,
“How do I view the money I already have?”

RichLife Show What Does God Have To Do With Money 5 Points

How [...]</itunes:summary>

It is only when a seed grows that it can produce more seeds.
It is only when you express joy and abundance in your own
life that you can help others to know joy and abundance in
their lives.

To make yourself miserable for the sake of helping others
will serve no useful purpose at all. The best way to be of
service to others is from a position of strength and
fulfillment rather than from a position of weakness and
despair.

The goals and dreams and desires that are so undeniably your
own are yours for a reason. They are showing you, and at the
same time compelling you, to make the most of your life.

It is not selfish to be your very best. What's truly selfish
is to let your enormous potential go unrealized.

What have you always wanted to know, always wanted to have,
always wanted to do, and always wanted to be? It is never
too late to honestly answer that question, and to answer it
with all the colorful detail and passion that it deserves.

For in the answer to that question is your own truly
beautiful and unique gift to life. Never stop reaching for
the best you can imagine; for when you fulfill your highest
possibilities, you raise the whole world up with you.

Last week I got a question from one of our listeners that was not a typical financial planning question. The question was "What Role Does God Play In Our Money?" Wow … what a HUGE question, don't you think? And, the answer to that question starts with the revelation of a secret. The secret is …

You Own NOTHING!

From Bud Harris - Great show today, Beau. If you believe in God and consider yourself a Christian, then God has authority over EVERYTHING in your life… greenbacks included.

My co-host Joy Allgood made an excellent point on the show. When you first start your day and grab that first cup of coffee, WHO do you think just bought coffee? Every breath you breathe, everything you do is because of God!

Every day people ask, "What do I want to do with this money?", "What do I want to do with these things?", "What do I want to do with my life?" When the context of those questions changes to "What should I do with God's money?", "What should I do with everything He has blessed me with?" EVERYTHING changes. And that change starts creating favorable conditions for the success you really want. The price for that success is that you have to allow yourself to give up control.

It really has very little to do with the money in your bank account, the money in your wallet or pulling out your debit card. It has to do with things that often times we take for granted, like the gas in your vehicle and where you are going in that car. Everything needs to glorify God!

I am going to take a very big risk over here and speak very bluntly. You have got to get over yourself and realize that YOU OWN NOTHING! God owns all of your possessions which are all just temporary things anyway! God truly is in control of everything and we are simply managers of what He has entrusted us with.

The Lord does just as He pleases –

however, wherever, whenever ~ Psalm 135:6 (The Message)

This ties in perfectly with what we spoke about on the first RichLife show of the New Year with Elise Adams and Dr. Bill Lampton! Many times God will use bad situations to the ultimate good of us as individuals, everyone concerned and for the greater whole. There is scripture throughout the entire Bible that gives direction on everyday situations. Over 2,350 verses in the Bible are about money. That's how important money is, was, and always will be. The Scripture provides money wisdom that can be traced back thousands of years about – earning, spending, saving, giving back, getting out of debt, investing, budgeting, and alot more!

God is in control. This is Life School. Sometimes we just have to trust Him! Sometimes bad things happen, there is no getting around that, but it really all comes down to what you do with it when bad things do happen! Life is a school! And how you respond to things will determine the outcome! If you choose to focus on God and what He wants, your outcome will be favorable! Remember – there is no such thing as failure, there is only feedback and there are no mistakes, only valuable lessons. The only way something becomes a mistake is if you don't learn the lesson and move forward.

God provides for all of us! God is very predictable in providing for our needs. What we have a hard time with is that we can't predict how He is going to do it. It may not look like how we think He should do it and that's where things get tough for us sometimes. It has everything to do with TRUST and FAITH! For many people, the test over the past couple of years has been to get clear about the differences between what we NEED and what we WANT. If we trust that God always gives us exactly what we need, our wants go by the wayside – especially now during these interesting economic times.

It is very interesting to take the approach

"I KNOW that I am going to be ok.

I don't know exactly how, but I KNOW I will be ok."

There's alot of peace to be found in that!

We are called to be good Stewards and managers of what we have been entrusted with – big or small – and our responsibility, what we are called to do, is to be faithful. We are called to be faithful regardless of the amount of what we are given – large or small – in every area. You may be tithing 10% already, but alot of times what is more important is what you do with the other 90%. We are called to be good stewards of not just money and with our tithing, but with our relationships, our job and work … EVERYTHING that He has blessed us with!

Remembering to be faithful in the little things is critical to being a good Steward. Here are just a couple of examples:

If you want to see how your child is going to treat a car, take a look at how he treats his bicycle.
It's Not Selfish to be Your Best – Steve D'Annunzio

What Role Does God Play In Our Money?
by Beau Henderson

One of the great things about what I do on the RichLife Show is that I get to answer YOUR money questions live every Saturday! Here's a few that came in since last week's show (and we will be answering as many of them as we can this coming Saturday – so be sure to listen in at 12:00 pm EST ):

From Sara - Beau, I'm finally in the black this year with my small business for the FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS!!! I'm a little nervous about the way the economy is going right now. What are the best options for investing in 2012?

From Steve - Hey Beau!! Thanks for all you do in our community!! Got a quick question for you! I got laid off from my job last year. What should I do with the money in my 401K? I sure could use that money right now!! Thanks again. I love listening to your show.

Last week I got a question from one of our listeners that was not a typical financial planning question. The question was "What Role Does God Play In Our Money?" Wow … what a HUGE question, don't you think? And, the answer to that question starts with the revelation of a secret. The secret is …

You Own NOTHING!

God owns all of your possessions!

The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof;
the world and they that dwell therein! ~ Psalm 24:1 (KJV)

It has to do with things that often times we take for granted, like the gas in your vehicle and where [...]</itunes:summary>
