Success With Life | 5 Signs That It’s Time to Let That Relationship Go

5 Signs It's Time To Let That Relationship Go - Beau Henderson - RichLife Advisors

My grandmother always used to say, “Birds of a feather flock together.” I never really thought about it until I realized I was in a relationship that had become unhelpful. We were both recovering from a breakup with a significant other, and one day I noticed that when we got together, all we did was blame and complain. While this felt good and was even necessary at first, I realized after a while that it was doing nothing to help me become a better person and achieve my long-term goals.

Are you in a toxic relationship? One that robs you of precious time and energy and does nothing to help you achieve your RichLife? The following 5 signs are good indicators that it might be time to upgrade your flock.

Sign #1: You have different objectives: What are your goals? What are their goals? People who share a common direction and sense of community can help you get to where you want to go quicker and with more efficiency because they have the ability to share information, support and advice.

Sign #2: You don’t feel supported: We all have times in our life when we doubt what we are doing, when we feel like we are flying alone. During those times, you want to be around people who have the ability to help you stay on track. While you want a friend who is honest, you also want someone by your side who encourages and stands by your heart-core values.

Sign #3: The relationship robs you of energy: After spending time with this person, ask yourself: Do you feel energized? Or depleted? Happy and ready to conquer the world? Or sad and ready to bury your head in the sand? Healthy relationships offer a mutually beneficial exchange of energy. They get something from you, and you get something from them.

Sign #4: They consistently use negative language: What happens when you are around someone who uses words like, can’t, shouldn’t, and don’t? No, never and won’t? After time, that energy starts to affect you, at first in small ways, and then in big ways. How does that kind of language move you closer to your RichLife?

Sign # 5: They ditch you during the difficult times: You really know you have a true gem when you find someone who stands by you not just during the good times, but during the bad. When you are sick, hurt or depressed, they stay with you until you are able to fly again. They stand by your side until you are strong.

The best thing you can do to attract people in your life who are supportive of your RichLife is to become the kind of person who is supportive of others.
